Thirteen people die in 10 accidents at Asante-Akim District

Juaso (Ash) April 22 GNA- Thirteen (13) people were killed, while 15 others were injured in 10 separate accidents that occurred in the Asante-Akim South District within the past two weeks. A Police source told the Ghana News Agency, at Juaso that seven people lost their lives at Atwedie when an articulated truck crashed into a mini-bus carrying 15 passengers.

At Kumeso, a saloon car knocked and killed three children who were standing by the roadside inciting an irate mob to set the car ablaze. The source said another saloon car knocked and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the road at Juaso Junction, while at the outskirts of Juaso an articulated truck collided with a taxi cab killing the cab driver instantly.

At Kumeso, three people sustained serious injuries when a private car hit a truck.

The injured were rushed to the Juaso District Hospital where they were admitted.

At Nkwanta near Juaso on the Obogu road, a bus and a saloon car were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the death of the driver of the saloon car.

Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive, appealed to the Ministry of Health and non- governmental organisations to assist the District Hospital with an ambulance since the area is accident-prone.

"It is a disturbing spectacle to see doctors and nurses struggling to find taxis to transfer injured people to Agogo Basel Mission Hospital or Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital," he said.
