Thirty-Five health personnel complete training on LDP

Takoradi, July 1, GNA - Some 35 health personnel from the Western Regional Health Directorate and six districts, on Wednesday, passed out after a six months training on the Leadership Development Programme (LDP).

The districts are Shama, Wassa Amenfi East, Wassa Amenfi West, Ellembelle, Prestea-Huni-Valley and Jomoro districts.

The training was sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Focus Region Health Project.

Speaking at the function, Dr. McDamien Dedzo, Director of Human Resources of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said the participants are to form the core teams in their workplaces to spread the concepts and principles of the LDP among their colleagues.

He said this would help the staff of the GHS to identify and address challenges at their workplaces, in order to improve service delivery.

Dr. Dedzo said the LDP would also assist to improve managerial and leadership skills at all levels of the GHS.

Dr. William Brown, a National Facilitator of LDP and Country Director of ADRA, Ghana, urged the participants to apply what they have learnt.

He said the LDP has been existence in the country since 2008 and that the USAID was also sponsoring the programme in the Greater Accra and Central Regions.

Dr. Brown asked the participants to form LDP teams at their workplaces to sustain the programme.

"The LDP is a process that could raise performance at all levels when embraced", he said.
