Daniel Keshi Bessey, the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sege Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has stated that his landslide victory in the 2024 parliamentary election represents the voice of the constituency's peace-loving voters who are anxious for a change in administration.

He spoke to the media after Stephen Oppong, the EC’s Returning Officer, announced the result, stating that the victory contributed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) record of winning the 2024 election by a wide margin.

However, he observed that most registered voters never hesitated to participate in this year's election, influencing voter participation and the margin he projected to win over the other candidates.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has deflated the confidence in the populace which remains the major factor for not taking part in the poll.

“The voter turn-out affected what I was expecting in the election. People are tired of this government and the reluctance to come out to vote and that could cause it”, he opined.

Daniel Keshi Bessey spoke about boosting farming in the constituency, emphasizing that the NDC will provide boreholes and agricultural equipment to encourage large-scale and all-round farming.

However, he refuted the contention that his predecessors as NDC former Members of Parliament had performed poorly in project development in the constituency.
He believes that the constituency is not handicapped in infrastructure and appeals that all former MPs deserve commendation for their efforts in developing the constituency.

“That should be somebody’s perception. I don’t know which angle they are looking at from, but if my predecessors are looked at as people who were not performing and we have to look at the project at Ada West, I see it as me coming to build up or beef up what they are doing”, he explained.

The newly elected Member of Parliament therefore expressed gratitude to the NDC constituency executives for their tireless efforts in attaining this fitting and called for unity to serve the residents.

“My chairman, secretary, organizer, and everyone who is part of the Constituency Executive Community have given their best so I do not doubt in my mind we are going to do what we have done,” he acknowledges.

Daniel Keshi Bessey obtained 18,718 votes out of 31,858 total, corresponding to 58.75 percent. The NPP's Dodzie Numekevor garnered 7313 votes, representing 22.95 percent, while Lasi Eunice, an independent candidate, had 5827 votes, accounting for 18.29 percent.

Daniel Keshi Bessey has become the NDC's third straight MP since the constituency was calved from the former Ada Constituency in 2004.

Alfred Wallace Gbordzor Abayateye, the constituency's first MP, was elected twice: in 2004 and 2008. Christian Corletey Otuteye won the NDC seat in the 2012, 2016, and 2024 parliamentary elections, making him the constituency's longest-serving member of parliament.
