Today can report that over 1,000 residents of Twifo-Praso in the Central Region have been affected by a flood disaster in the town.
The flood, which came as a result of the spillover from River Pra, has rendered many people homeless.
Days of heavy downpour left the river overflowing its banks, thereby meandering its way into people’s homes and destroying properties as well.
Although Today gathered there was no casualty, many people have been displaced.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), it has since accounted for nearly 1800 residents but was struggling to reach victims in some communities that had been cut off.
Meanwhile, speaking to a cross-section of journalists, the Acting Director of NADMO in the district, Mr. Richard Marfo, noted that the situation was devastating.
According to him, dozens were now putting up in an uncompleted motel and had been supplied with relief items.
Others, he said, were also using classrooms at least for the time being.
“Their livelihoods have also been taken away as the flood waters washed away their farms,” he disclosed.
In view of this, Mr. Marfo appealed to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists to come to the aid of the victims.
