Breman Jamra, (C/R) July 2, GNA - About 400 school children are participating in a three-day Inter District Under 15 Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) Sports Festival which opened on Friday at Breman Jamra in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of the Central Region. The four Districts that form the Zone are participating in soccer, table tennis, volley, netball and athletics. The Districts are made up of Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Gomoa, Agona and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa.
The Festival is to select a team to join other sports boys and girls in the other zones to represent the Central Region in the Inter-Regional School Sports Festival scheduled for Tamale next year. The Asikuma Odoben-Brakwa District Director of Education, Mrs. Janet Ama Lassey in an opening address called on the teams do their best to attract and motivate more youth to engage in sporting activities in order to prevent them from indulging in negative activities.
Mrs Lassey advised the participants to take their studies seriously while engaging in sports, adding that they would require academic excellence to obtain greater highest in all endeavours. Mr Kotcha Brew, Central Regional Sports Organiser advised the contingents to combine their talents with discipline to make them succeed in life. He called for hard work of the various teams to ensure that the Region maintains its first position achieved from last year's festival.
Mr. Fred Asamoah, the District Sports Organiser expressed the hope that participants would be serious with their output at the festival to ensure that the Region selects a good team. In the open girls division match, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District beat Gomoa District 2-0.
