Three persons are feared dead after being knocked down by a commercial vehicle commonly known as 'trotro' at Mallam junction in Accra.
According to eyewitness reports, the incident occurred on July 6, 2024, on the busy route from Gbawe to Mallam Junction after the 18-seater trotro experienced a brake failure while approaching Mallam.
The driver, in a desperate attempt to regain control, veered off the road and collided with a kiosk selling confectioneries, knocking down three individuals who were near the kiosk at the time.
The three unconscious victims were promptly taken to the nearest hospital for emergency medical attention.
Authorities reportedly arrived at the scene shortly after to assess the situation and direct traffic, which had become congested due to the accident.
The condition of the injured remains uncertain, and they are currently receiving treatment.
This accident raised concerns about vehicle maintenance and road safety standards in the country.
According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Ghana experienced 14,135 crashes, involving 23,998 vehicles and 2,559 pedestrian knockdowns.
