Obuasi, May 27, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has now cleared three persons to contest the Party's primaries in Obuasi, Mr John D. Baidoo, Obuasi Constituency Chairman of the party told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday.
The candidates are Edward Enin, Ashanti Regional Representative of All Risks Insurance Consultancy; Ishmael Appiah, a Management Consultant and Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng, a Civil Engineer/Freelance Journalist. Mr Baidoo said the three were now free to contest the primaries for the parliamentary ticket of the Party.
He said the necessary steps had been taken to ensure that the Party was not divided along the lines of the three candidates during and after the primaries.
The Chairman said the candidates had been knitted together and that there was no antagonism or acrimony among them.
"I am very certain that this primaries will not create any antagonism within the Party at the constituency level", Mr Baidoo said.
He, however, cautioned the supporters of the three candidates to see themselves as members of one family.
Commenting on the clashes between NPP and NDC supporters in some parts of the country, Mr Baidoo observed that it was unfortunate that politics was being used to divide brothers and friends.
He said there was the need for Ghanaians to pray for political activists to see reason.
"At the end of the day, whether NPP or NDC, we all have the same goal. The goal is to develop Ghana and nothing else and therefore, these clashes are not necessary", he said.
Mr Baidoo stressed the need for calm in the country and appealed to the leadership of the parties to prevail on their supporters to avoid acts that were likely to endanger the peace and stability in the country.
