Busua (W/R), July 28, GNA - The Ahanta West District Assembly (AWDA), in collaboration with the Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), has drawn up a 20-year strategic plan for the district to be developed into an industrial area.
Projects earmarked include three cities to be located at Adjua, Princess Town and Agona, agriculture, high educational institutions, tourist attractions, airports, harbours, industrial areas and resorts.
Mr Seth Ankomah-Sey, Ahanta West District Development Planning Officer who briefed a stakeholders’ meeting at Busua on Wednesday appealed to residents to show commitment towards the project.
He said the areas would be zoned and provided with the basic social amenities before allocating to individual investors or organizations for development into projects of their choice.
The stakeholders, made up of traditional rulers, assembly members, heads of departments and technical experts from the various institutions, lauded the programme and called for governmental support for its early implementation.
They noted that the assembly alone cannot shoulder the huge cost of the project stressing that government’s intervention was very necessary.
Reacting to the call, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, appealed to the traditional authorities to be actively involved right from the early stages of planning to enable them present their concerns since they also generate majority of their income from local sources.
Mr Jones Amoah, immediate past District Chief Executive, appealed to chiefs to stop indiscriminate sale of land and reserve it for the implementation of the project.
