Discussants at a public forum to identify the cause of the increasing cases of parental neglect, unanimously agreed that uncontrolled births resulting from the bringing forth too many children in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region largely accounts for it.
It was established that parents give birth to children and are unable to provide for them abandoning the poor ones to their fate which is why teenage pregnancy is said to be on the rise in the area.
Right to Play an international Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) brought together parents and girls of the United Primary School to discuss matters confronting girls that affect their education and to find ways in addressing them.
The two parties identified mistakes of the other with the major issues arising being from the way parents nurture their children.
Some of the parents admitted the blame since some of them give birth to too many children than they can take care for whilst others fail to be responsible and turn away their wards when they request for their basic needs in school.
The conduct of young girls in their way of dressing and the use of mobile phones it was also revealed predisposes them to vices such as early sex resulting in teenage pregnancies, rape and defilement
According to the field facilitator of Right to Play Mr Ayamga Bawa Fatawu, the engagement was to remind parents to become proactive towards nurturing of the female wards and to inform them to realize the necessity to educate the girl child and avoid giving them for out for early marriage.
