The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ghana (CILT), as part of its efforts to keep up with the constant evolution of logistics chains and the growing complexity of goods flows, organized a two-day workshop for logistics and warehouse professionals.

The aim of the workshop was to expose practitioners to the latest advancements, best practices, and technologies in the sector.

With the role of warehouse professionals becoming increasingly crucial in ensuring the competitiveness and efficiency of nations and companies, CILT sought to empower its members with the tools and insights needed to transform warehouse operations and contribute to more efficient and sustainable logistics supply chain management.

Speaking at the event, the President of CILT Ghana, Engr. Mark Amoamah, highlighted the gaps in warehouse operations in Ghana and stressed the need to ensure greater efficiency in the sector.

“In every operation, we want to look at efficiency as our hallmark. We seem to stock more than we need, and when that happens, we are only holding on to capital.

"As part of our mandate as an institute, we are to ensure the continuous professional development of all members and practitioners amidst the changing trends of the industry,” he stated.

He further urged the government to, as a matter of urgency, expedite interventions in the health supply chain sector, which has been negatively affected by the suspension of support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

This disruption has impacted the supply of essential health commodities, particularly in the Northern, North East, and Savannah regions.

“The Northern Regional Medical Stores, which serve as the medical warehouse hub for the region, are now experiencing significant disruptions both upstream and downstream.

This situation re-emphasizes the vital role supply chains play in our socio-economic development as a country. We urge the government to act swiftly to resolve the issue in order to prevent the loss of more lives,” he added.

The workshop focused on several critical areas, including inventory and stock control, warehouse robotics, and the optimization of warehouse efficiency.
