Transport Owner sentenced to a day's imprisonment

Alex Osei Amoah, who claimed to be a transport owner has been sentenced to a day's imprisonment and fined 500,000 cedis by the Asamankese Circuit court for threatening to harm a nurse at the Asamankese Government Hospital.

Amoah, a resident of Asikafoamentem near Asamankese, who pleaded guilty, was also ordered to pay 500,000 cedis compensation to the nurse, Miss Mercy Asiedu.

ln addition, the court ordered Amoah to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for two years or in default go to prison for one year.

Police Chief Inspector Mariama Duneya, prosecuting told the court that Miss Asiedu was on duty at the female ward at about 7.00 p.m. on December 13, last year, when Amoah entered the ward to visit a patient.

When he was asked to go out because visiting period was over, he left, very furious and sat on a wall outside the general ward.

When the nurse closed from work at about 6.30 p.m. and was leaving for the house, Amoah followed her, pouring insults and asked her if she knew him and threatened that should she disgrace him the way she did at the hospital again he would beat and harm her.

A report was made to the Police and Amoah was arrested.

In passing sentence, the Judge Mr S.S Appiah described Amoah as arrogant and indisciplined and stressed that the offence of threatening anybody with harm is very serious.

Mr Appiah advised public servants to go about their duties without fear.
