Tribunal remands tractor?s mate for murder

Tamale (Northern Region) -- The Tamale Community Tribunal has remanded a tractor operator?s mate, Sulemana Afoko, 30, in prison custody for allegedly murdering a 23-year-old trader, Yakubu Kande, after wounding her boyfriend.

Afoko, who is a former friend of the deceased, is to reappear before the tribunal that was chaired by Her Worship, Angelina Gyamfi.Prosecuting, Chief Inspector M. Sampana said on September 13, this year, both the deceased and her current boyfriend, Yusif Alhassan were sleeping together at a quarters at Sakasaka, a suburb of Tamale, when Afoko, in the company of others, knocked at their door.

He said when Alhassan opened the door, Afoko rushed into the room where the deceased was still sleeping. They woke her up and subsequently stabbed her.The inspector said after the act, the assailants bolted and left Alhassan and the deceased to their fate.

He said despite the fact that the municipality is under a state of emergency, Alhassan managed to crawl out of the house and security personnel patrolling the area took the two victims to the Tamale Regional Hospital.

The prosecutor said, on arrival, Alhassan and Kande were rushed to the theatre where they were operated upon. The victim however, died the following day. He said Alhassan later identified Afoko as the one who carried out the attack.

Meanwhile Afoko has denied any involvement in the case while items found at the scene of the incident have been sent to the police headquarters in Accra for forensic test.
