Techiman (B/A) Aug. 17, GNA - A 10-member neighbourhood watchdog committee has been inaugurated in Tunsuase electoral area in the Techiman Municipality.
The committee has Mr. Kwasi Takyi as Chairman, Mr. Seth Yiadom Adarkwa, vice-chairman, Mr. Edward K. Gyandoh, Secretary and Mr. Kofi Gyan as Vice Secretary.
Other members are Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, Mr. James Salibo, Mr. Jacob Quayson, Mr. Samuel Kwaku Antwi and Mr. Yaw Badu.
Inaugurating the committee Chief Superintendent of Police Joseph Antwi-Gyan, Techiman Municipal Police Commander, noted the rising crime wave in the municipality and urged the volunteers to assist the police to minimise crime in the electoral area.
He advised them against the use of offensive weapons in the course of their activities but to refer any arrests made to the police.
The Municipal Police Commander assured the committee of police support and advised them to be transparent in the discharge of their activities.
Nana Baafour Asare Twi-Brimpong, Adontehene of Techiman Traditional Area, called on the committee members to collaborate with the police in combating crime in the municipality.
He said the chiefs would continue to assist the volunteers in the provision of the necessary security and logistics and asked the police to collaborate with the volunteers for adequate assistance.
The chief called on the media to be circumspect in their reportage on criminal activities and asked landlords to assist the volunteers.
Mr. Takyi, who received 10 flash lights, 10 pairs of Wellington boots and 10 rain coats donated by the Municipal Assembly on behalf of the committee members, thanked the chiefs and the police commander for the trust and confidence reposed in them.
He promised the committee members would do their best to help protect lives and properties in the electoral area.
Other speakers of the ceremony included Nana Kwame Owusu, Ankobeahene, Nana Antwi Boasiako, Akyeamehene, Chief Inspector Tommy Thompson, Officer-in-charge of Techiman Municipal charge office and Mr. Ben Boabeng, Assembly Member for Tunsuase Electoral Area.
