Twifo District Assembly improves internally generated revenue

Twifo Praso (C/R) Aug 17, GNA - The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly, has at from January to June this year, collected a total of 700,509,339.50 cedis from its traditional revenue sources, as against 319,784.77 cedis, over the same period last year.

Mr Abraham Odoom, District Chief Executive (DCE), who announced this on Monday at the assembly's second ordinary meeting at Twifo-Praso, said the amount, represented 61.13 per cent of the 1.146 billion cedis projected for this year.

The DCE commended the Assembly's Revenue Collectors for their "spectacular" performance and asked them to keep it up.

He said the Assembly had decided to attach Revenue Collectors to the Area Councils and appealed to Assembly Members to assist them in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Odoom said within the past three years, an amount of 12,863,260,000 cedis had been spent by the ADB, SIF, COCOBOD and Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) to purchase 47,560 bags of fertilizers for supply to 8,284 farmers in the district to promote "the cocoa Hi-Tech project". He attributed the success of the project, to donor support, the Assembly's commitment, the farmers' willingness, enthusiasm and quick response to the technology, the hard work and dedication of the co-ordinators and the government's good policy initiative.

The DCE called on the people to support and register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He gave the assurance that the Assembly was doing everything possible to get as many communities as possible connected to the national electricity grid.

Mr Odoom urged communities yet to be connected, to provide low-tension poles for the project.

The Reverend Ben Donkor, Presiding Member of the Assembly had earlier appealed to the Members to ensure that the 2004 elections were conducted peacefully. 17 Aug 04
