Twifo assembly appeals for funds from Kakum National Park for more projects

Twifo-Praso (C/R), Aug. 2, GNA - Mr. Yaw Agyeibi-Kessie, Twifo-Heman -Lower Denkyira District Chief Executive on Tuesday appealed for a portion of the revenue accrued from the Kakum National Park, which is within the district, as royalty to the assembly to enable it undertake more development projects.

The DCE made the appeal when the Minister of Information, Mr Dan Botwe addressed the Assembly as part of a three-day working visit to the Central Region.

Mr. Agyeibi-Kessie also appealed to the Minister to use his good offices to help the assembly to acquire sanitary equipment to enable it to deal with the "overwhelming waste disposal" problems in the district.

He said the district needs assistance to solve the housing problems facing workers, improved telephone services, TV reception as well as good roads.

The DCE, said lack of a vehicle for the District Information Office had made it difficult for the office to reach out to the over 1,510 communities in the district.

On his part, Mr. Botwe, said his Ministry will ensure that all Ghanaians are well informed on national issues to enable them to support the national development agenda.

He said one of the dividends of democracy, was for the electorate to be well informed to enable them to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the nation, stressing that information was vital to the democratic process.

The Minister gave the assurance that the government would remain focused and transparent by ensuring that the public was well informed since a well informed people tend to be more relaxed and go about their duties peacefully.

He deplored "detractors of development" who make unsubstantiated allegations on the airwaves and urged Ghanaians to be more concerned about the growth of the nation, and to be wary of such people. Mr. Botwe stated the need for the provision of the requisite infrastructure and other amenities such as good housing, to enhance the decentralization process, and assured workers in the district that the government was doing everything possible to ensure this. Mr. Botwe, later inspected progress of work on new buildings being constructed for the Twifo- Praso Secondary School, under the districts' model secondary school project.
