Jasikan, Oct. 11, GNA- Two nominees of the President for the Kpando and Jasikan district were on Friday confirmed as District Chief Executives. The are Mr Pious Adanuti, 58, Lecturer at the Ho Polytechnic for Kpando and Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor, 42, an Accountant with the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) for Jasikan.
Mr Adanuti polled 58 votes against two with 11 abstentions while Mr Donkor polled 46 votes against 11 with six abstentions. Mr Justine Dorgu, a Circuit Court Judge at Kpando and Mr Paul Dery, also a Hohoe Circuit Court Judge swore them into office at Kpando and Jasikan respectively.
The Regional Electoral Commission supervised the elections. At Kpando Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development advised the new DCE to help tap the human and natural resources in the district to improve the living conditions of the people.
He urged Assembly Members and heads of departments to cooperate with the Chief Executive in the execution of their duties adding that they should do away with political affiliation and team up to develop the district.
The Deputy Minister advised the Chief Executive to run an open door administration to enhance the rapid development of the area. Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister congratulated the assemblies for confirming the nominees and charged them to cooperate with him to accelerate the development of the district.
He asked the assembly to improve upon its revenue mobilisation. Ms Akua Dansua, Member of Parliament (MP) for North-Dayi pledged her support for the DCE.
Mr Adanuti thanked the President and the assembly for the trust reposed in him and pledged to do all he could to facilitate the development of the area.
At Jasikan, Captain Effah Dartey said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would continue to monitor the activities of DCEs. "The Ministry will not hesitate to dismiss any DCE who does not perform", the Deputy Minister said.
Captain Effah Dartey said he was not happy with the recovery of loans under the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF), saying of the 100 billion cedis disbursed since the establishment of the fund only 10 billion cedis had been recovered.
He, therefore, charged the district assemblies to streamline the disbursement of the fund.
Mr Owusu-Yeboa announced that the government had voted nine billion cedis for the rehabilitation of the Hohoe-Jaiskan road adding that three billion cedis had also been earmarked for the rehabilitation of roads at Jasikan.
Mr Donkor thanked the President and the assembly for nominating and confirming him as the DCE and promised to live above reproach.
