Wassa-Akropong (W/R), June 27, GNA - Two people from Gyedua in the Amenfi East District of the Western Region died at the Wassa-Akropong Government Hospital after showing symptoms of acute diarrhoea. Six others from the same town who look pale and weak and passing watery stool are on admission at the hospital, Dr. Maame Pokua Amoo-Addai, District Director of Health Services, said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wassa-Akropong on Monday.
She said the cause of the deaths is yet to be determined but did not rule out cholera since the people depend on untreated water for drinking and domestic chores.
Dr Amoo-Addai advised the people to boil water before drinking, especially with the onset of the rains during which water from the drains enter the main source of water for the community. She appealed to the district assembly to help to improve sanitation in the town by providing the community with places of convenience and boreholes to eliminate their dependence on untreated water. Mr. George Addo, the District Coordinating Director, said the district assembly would soon rehabilitate three broken down wells in the town and would build a 16-seat KVIP.
