Two women arrested for failing to report defilement case

Sunyani, Sept 13, GNA- The Brong Ahafo Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Police, on Thursday arrested two nursing mothers in police custody for failing to report a defilement case to the police before sending the victim to hospital.

Madam Joyce Appiah and Akuah Kyeremaa are sisters of one Yaw Ketewa, a corn miller, who is alleged to have defiled his 13-year-old daughter in Sunyani and absconded.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex Yartey Tawiah, head of WAJU in Sunyani told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Ketewa, stayed alone with his daughter at Area Two in Sunyani and sexually assaulted her on several occasions and warned her not to disclose to anybody. He said Ketewa moved to stay at Abesim, near Sunyani early this year, leaving the girl in the care of his mother.

The girl started complaining of abnormal pains to the grandmother after the father has left but refused to mention to the grand mother the ordeal she went through at the hands of her father.

ASP Tawiah said a medical form was issued to the girl for examination and the doctor's report indicated that she had been sexually abused with sores in her private part.
