Kumasi, Dec. 22, GNA - The Chief and people of Twumduase, near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, have initiated a development projects estimated at more than 400 million cedis for the community.
The projects comprise the completion of the Chief's palace complex, extension of electricity to parts of the Twumduase new site and drilling of four boreholes for potable water.
Nana Twum Barima II, Twumduasehene, announced this at a durbar held in his honour at Twumduase on Sunday following his re-installation as chief after four years of dispute resulting in his being restrained by the Asantehene from exercising his function as chief of the area until the settlement of the dispute.
He said the projects would be funded from periodic fund-raising harvests, stool resources and contributions from landlords in the community, as well as voluntary contributions.
The Twumduasehene said already negotiations were underway for the procurement of 100 low-tension electric poles and that discussions were being concluded with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to provide an extra transformer to beef up power supply to the area.
Nana Twum Barima said unity of purpose was the only ingredient needed for success in the development drive and progress of any community and for that matter, he would explore all avenues to bring oneness and peace to Twumduase.
Barima Osei Kwadwo II, Otumfuo's Mamensenhene and overlord of Twumduase, advised Nana Twum Barima to forget the bitter past and establish more cordial relations with all his subjects without any discrimination.
He also entreated the people of Twumduase to accord the chief the needed respect and co-operate with him and avoid any acts that could plunge the community into dispute and litigation again. The Twumduase New Site Landlords Association later honoured Nana Twum Barima with a set of chairs, native sandals and a cloth, all valued at five million cedis, in addition to a cash of two million cedis.
