UNDP provides 500 sheep to farmers in Yendi

Yendi (NR), March 6, GNA – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has provided 500 sheep to 100 farmers from Balogu Zohe, Kumfong, Nayilifong and Guntingli as part of its Human Security Project in the Yendi Municipality.

Mr Issah Zakaria, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who presented the livestock on behalf of UNDP, said the programme is aimed at improving the lot of the people in Yendi and its environs.

He said the livestock would keep them engaged so that their attention would not be drawn to issues bothering on ethnic and other social conflicts.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to take good care of the livestock and use the profits pay for their medical bills, their children’s education and other social economic concerns.

Mr Ambrose Ansaayiri, the Yendi Municipal Director of Agriculture, said the sheep project like other components of the programme is to ensure food security, poverty reduction and productive engagement of beneficiaries.

Mr Ansaayiri said to ensure the proper management of the animals, all the beneficiaries of the project were trained and equipped with the appropriate techniques in feeding, breeding, health care and marketing strategies by UNDP officers. He appealed to the farmers to report any infection or diseases, which affects the livestock to the appropriate Veterinary officers for immediate treatment.
