Upper West takes delivery of rice from GPHA

Wa, Aug.30, GNA - The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council on Tuesday took delivery of 2,800 bags (140 tons) of rice valued at 644 million cedis from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority at a brief ceremony at Wa.

Mr Theophilus Afful Biney, a member of the Board of Directors of the Authority who made the presentation, said their organization's gesture was in response to the food shortage that was being experienced in the region.

He said the donation was part of their social responsibility to assuage the needs of poor and vulnerable groups in the society. On behalf of the chiefs and people of the region, Mr Ambrose Dery, the Regional Minister thanked the donors and noted that their kind gesture was a mark of good corporate citizenship and showed that the GPHA was alive to its responsibilities. He said the RCC would ensure that the food goes to the targeted beneficiaries.
