Use the speed cameras to prosecute offenders - NRSC Director

Mr Mohammed Abdul-Samad, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has appealed to the police to make use of the existing speed cameras to monitor over speeding on our roads.

He said if the speed cameras are used effectively and offending drivers are punished, it would deter others from over speeding especially when driving in town.

Mr Abdul-Samad, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said over speeding was one of the major contributing factors to the increasing number of road crashes in the region.

The NRSC Regional Director said the speed cameras were installed purposely to check this act of over speeding on the roads, and it is important for all road users to feel its presence.

Meanwhile, GNA has gathered from the Regional Office of the Motto Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service that the existing speed cameras in the society just captures the speed of vehicles without other details such as the vehicle number, date and time the act was committed.
