V/R NPP branch elects officials

Hohoe, Aug. 31, GNA - Nine persons were on Saturday elected to steer affairs of the Volta Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the next three years at a Regional Delegates Conference held in Hohoe. In a keenly contested elections for the position of the Chairman, during which Mr Samuel Komla Tsahey, a Lecturer at the University of Ghana, one of three contestants for the position stepped down, Mr Emmanuel Kenwood Nuworsoo, acting Regional Chairman was elected. He polled 71 votes to beat Mr Emil Kwame Asidigbe who polled 18 votes. Mr Christian Kofi Glakpe, A Businessman was declared unopposed for the position of 1st Vice-Chairman.

The Conference, however, appointed Nana Yaw Affram of the Krachi Constituency to assist him.

The Second Vice-Chairman contested by Mr Festus Abotsi, Ida Saim Yaababy and Ms. Nancy Tsikportu was won by Tsikportu with 57 votes against Yaababy and Abotsi who had 11 and 19 votes respectively. Mr Elvis Mesre-Boahene the acting Secretary was elected Secretary when he polled 65 votes to beat Leonard Klogo, who had 14 and Godwin Kwaku Denu, eight votes.

Mr Ken Ayim became the new Assistant Secretary when he polled 47 votes to beat Alfred Dumoga and Gladstone Ofori, who had 5 votes and 35 votes respectively.

Nana Otchere-Mantey, the Chairman of Hohoe-North Constituency was declared unopposed for the position of Treasurer, while Madam Grace Mensah, the incumbent Women's Organiser retained his position and John Reagan Tepretu became the new Regional Youth Organiser. They were sworn in by Mr Lord Commey, National Organiser of the Party. The election were conducted by the official from Electoral Commission and supervised Mr Tommy Amematekpor, Special Aide to the President and Mr Commey.

Earlier in an address, Mr Commey called on supporters of Party to remain steadfast, work in unity and refrain from divisive tendencies. "The unnecessary in-fighting and bickering within the rank and file of the Party was doing more harm than good; stop it", he stressed. Mr Commey charged supporters and sympathisers of the Party to intensify their campaigns to enable the Party to win some of the 19 seats in the region, adding that there should be less talk and more action. Mr. Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa Volta Regional Minister called on the Party supporters to put shoulders to the wheel to move the Party forward. He urged them not to view decisions taken in the interest of the Party with undue suspicion.

Earlier in a welcoming address, Mr James Komla Dogbe Hohoe District chief Executive (DCE) called on Party members to send their campaigns from house to house, educate people of the programmes and policies of the government to enable the Party to win 12 of the 19 seats in the region.

Among those present at the function were, Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State for Tertiary Education, all DCEs in the region, Togbe Buami V, Senior Divisional Chief of the Gbi-Traditional Area and Alhaji Meiga the National Chairman of the NASARA club.
