VR Minister assures expatriates of protection

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa on Thursday assured expatriates in the region that the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) appreciates their services and would do everything to ensure their safety during their tour of duty in the region.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa was briefing Journalists regarding the Ghanaian Times editorial of January 28, which sought to blame the Police for the spate of burglaries of expatriate doctors at the "Medical Village" at Ho.

He advised the doctors to be circumspect about people they associate with without which it would be difficult for the Police to protect them.

"If you brought into your home somebody you hardly knew, left him or her behind only to return to find some of your property missing, you don't have to blame the Police", Mr Kwasi Yeboa stated.

He said investigations into the burglaries indicated that they "were inside jobs", with possible perpetrators being people that the expatriates, mostly Cubans associated with.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said Police had apprehended the culprit in the latest incident of burglary of an expatriate doctor, which occurred not in the "Medical Village", but quite far away in the residential area of top government officials.

Unfortunately however, the expatriate doctor was not willing to co-operate in the prosecution of the alleged thief.

That notwithstanding, the Regional Minister has asked the Regional Police Commander, Mr Kofi Duku Arthur to get the Police to proceed with the prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
