Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Saturday joined hundreds of mourners at the forecourt of the State House to mourn Mr Joseph Donkor Issachar, Administrator General of Estates, Office the President.
Dignitaries who attended the funeral included Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, Dormaahene and brother-in-law of the deceased, Hajia Ramatu Mahama, Wife of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and the public.
Reverend Father Wisdom Larwea of the Catholic Church, in a homily, urged Ghanaians to reconcile with themselves, their neighbours, and God.
“We have to reconcile with ourselves because we are not proud of some of the things we did in the past, hence we must learn to forgive ourselves.
“We have today, yesterday is gone but tomorrow may not be ours; let’s reconcile ourselves together.
“When we reconcile with each other, death will not pull a surprise on us,” he said.
Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, while other wreaths were laid by the widow, Madam Serwaa Issachar, children, family and the Civil Service.
The late Mr Issachar was born on September 17, 1949 at Hwiediem-Ohwim near Kumasi to Mr Ayelkgum Ayisaka of Nabango-Mirigu near Navrongo in the Upper East Region and Madam Amma Adutwumwaa of the Oyoko Family of Hwediem-Ohwim.
He obtained his General Certificate of Education both Ordinary and Advanced levels at the Navrongo Secondary School and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1973 at the University of Ghana, Legon.
He also obtained a Masters Degree in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
He joined the Ghana Civil Service in 1974 and started work at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
During his career at the Civil Service he held so many portfolios such as District Administrator, Regional Co-ordinating Director, Secretary to the Vice President from 2001 to 2006, and Head of Civil Service from 2006 to 2009.
He was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama in 2012 as the first Administrator General of Estates, Office of the President; a position he held until his death in London on July 1, 2014.
He was awarded the National Award Order of the Volta – Officer in 2008, by President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He is survived by a wife, Madam Serwaa and four children
