Accra, Nov. 27, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has ordered the Department of Urban Roads (DUR) to expedite action to facilitate the commencement of works on the Sunyani Ring Road by 2007 to ease traffic flow in the Municipality.

He directed Mr Benjamin Adjeitey, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the DUR, to inform his superiors in Accra to put the necessary measures in place for the completion of the 10-kilometre Sunyani Polytechnic 96 Fiapre - Polytechnic Roundabout Ring road initiated by former administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Alhaji Mahama gave the order on Sunday when he inspected works on a portion of the 250 billion cedis road under construction as part of his two-day official visit to the Region. So far 5.2 kilometres of the Road has been completed.

Accompanied by the Senior Minister, Mr Joseph Henry Mensah, Alhaji Mahama also inspected works on the Sunyani - Acherensua road being undertaken by MESSRS J.A Adom.

He commended the Contractor, for altering the initial plan to a dual- carriage road to reduce the spate of accidents. Government has committed over 100 billion cedis towards the contract while Germany has made 45 billion cedis available. Alhaji Mahama said the road was dear to the heart of the Government since it connected the Ahafo Area to Sunyani, the capital of the Region, and a number of mining communities.
