Voice of the Poor to the rescue of Bakpa-Dzave

Mafi-Kumase (V/R), April 26, GNA - Voice of the Poor Group, an International non-governmental organization is to help provide a basic school block for the chiefs and people of Bakpa-Dzave, a farming community near Mafi-Kumase in the North Tongu District.

The organization would also help provide potable water for the community to stop the people from depending on a well to forestall the rampant cases of bilharzia and other diseases in the area. Ms Pauline Durant, International Director of the NGO announced this when her team with its local directors visited the community to identify with its problems.

She expressed regret that the community with over 400 population had no basic school and children had to walk over three miles to attend the nearest school.

Ms. Durant said such situations were responsible for the poverty level of the area and said her Organization would help the community come out of its predicament.

She said her outfit would empower women in the area and protect the rights of the marginalized in the community and called for the assistance of opinion leaders in the area.

Mr. Kwaku I.M. Dzordzi, an elder from the community said the community had settled at its present place for the past 150 years and had lacked basic amenities to improve their living conditions. He said the community had initiated some developmental projects, including the acquisition of electric poles and appealed to other benevolent organizations to come to their aid.
