Ho, April 14, GNA- The Volta Regional Office of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) on Tuesday briefed District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Presiding Members on the 272- million Danish kroner, Water and Sanitation Sector Programme Support-Phase Two, in Ho.
Under the Danish support programme, the Volta, Greater-Accra, Eastern and Central regions are to benefit from 1,200 boreholes and 30 pipe systems.
The five-year programme, which begins in May this year and ends in 2008, also provides for sanitation facilities some to institutions in the four regions.
Mr Emmanuel Forster Boateng, Volta Regional Director of CWSA told Journalists that there was the need to orientate District Chief Executives (DCEs) and some officers on schedules and requirements for qualification and management of projects under the programme. He said he expected that competition for the boreholes and pipe systems would be very keen since the number of communities, which needed the facilities, were far above what the programme could provide. Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister said the region that delivered better and quicker would get more of the facilities under the programme.
He therefore, advised all DCEs to take the orientation seriously and to re-double their efforts in the implementation of the programme. He urged all the districts to ensure that at the end of the project, Volta Region would be the first among the four regions, adding that this was one opportunity that could be exploited to quicken the pace of development.
