W/R MTTU inspects vehicles to check accidents.

Takoradi, Nov. 25,-GNA- The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in the Western Region has embarked on a programme to inspect vehicles of companies before they are put on the road.

This would ensure that vehicles, especially cargo and articulated truck of large firms were properly maintained to avoid acc idents.

Mr. Victor Adusah-Poku, Regional MTTU Commander was briefing the Media after inspecting fleet of vehicles of some companies in Takoradi on Thursday.

He said it came to light that most vehicles of certain companies did not have spare tyres, while others have defective headlights, brake-lights and traffic indicator lights. At the Takoradi Flour Mills, Mr. Adusah-Poku ordered the Management of the company to maintain all vehicles before they were put on road. Drivers must be provided with items such as jacks, warning triangles and spare tyres before the vehicles leave the company's premises. He warned that his outfit would deal drastically with recalcitrant companies and individuals who failed to comply with road signs and regulations.
