Funsi (UW), April 26, GNA- The Wa East District Assembly has made strides in its internal revenue generation by collecting GH¢30,388.96 as against its target of GH¢30,000.00 for last year.
However, this amount was not enough to meet its expenditure of GH¢31,094.62 for the same period prompting it to set a new target of 62,934.00 for this year, Mr Isaac Alitu,, District Chief Executive said in his maiden report at the ordinary session of the Assembly at Funsi on Thursday.
He appealed to the members to assist the Assembly to ensure that all loopholes and leakages regarding revenue generation were sealed. Mr Alitu disclosed that the Assembly received GH¢568,525.15 as its share of the District Assembly Common Fund from the Central government out of which GH¢565,776.00 was spent leaving a balance of GH¢2,749.15.
The District, which was carved out of the Wa District, is currently the poorest district in the Upper West Region with no office and residential accommodation for workers and no communication facilities. Not even Funsi, the district capital has been connected to the National electricity grid and with the rainy season approaching, the bad roads have started developing pot-holes as a result of erosion. Mr Joseph Bolibie, the Presiding Member called for peace and unity within the assembly to enable them to push the development agenda of the District forward.
He also urged officials of the Assembly to support and encourage assembly members to carry out their duties in their electoral areas.
