The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of the maiden Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) for private candidates.
The exam was conducted between Monday, February 16 and Friday, February 20 for not only failed junior high school (JHS) graduates but also for first timers aged 16 and above.
In a statement on Monday, April 13, WAEC said out of the 1,181 students who registered for the maiden exams, 466 were re-sitters while 715 were first timers.
Three candidates have had their entire results withheld for alleged examination malpractices while the results of 79 others will be subjected to questioning as they are said to have written the exam without meeting the entry requirements.
βThe withheld results will be released as soon as the Council concludes its investigations,β the statement signed by Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe of the Public Affairs Directorate said.
The examination was written at 11 centers with Western Region recording the highest number of entries.
