Wa East Assembly declares 2010 year maximum revenue mobilization

Funsi (U/W), Dec. 23, GNA - The Wa East District Assembly has decla= red 2010 as a year of action during which it would exploit its huge potential= to maximize its internally generated revenue through sustained efforts.

This declaration has been buttressed by its ability to realize 67,034.84 Ghana cedis revenue against an estimated 57,175.70 Ghana cedis as at the end of October. Mr. Ameen Salifu, the District Chief Executive who was addressing t= he last ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Funsi, said the Assembly's over reliance on external sources to finance its development projects was dangerous and needed to look inwards.

He said as at October this year receipts from both internal and exter= nal sources of finance stood at 580,986.39 which represented only 25.2 per ce= nt of the expected revenue of about 2,033899.25 Ghana cedis.

Touching on current development projects, he said the Assembly wou= ld soon start constructing two police posts at Kundugu and Kulkpong to strengthen security in the district. On energy, he said the non-connection of electricity from the natio= nal grid to the district was negatively affecting the finances of the assembl= y. He appealed to the Ministry of Energy and the contractors working on=

the electrification project to work faster to relieve the Assembly of tha= t burden. Mr. Salifu commended the government for earmarking about 1,584,362.= 59 Ghana cedis from the GETFund for the construction of structures for a Sen= ior High School in the district.
