Wa, June 9, GNA - The Wa Polytechnic multi-million cedi building complex would be completed and handed over to the school authorities for use by the end of September this year, Mr Wang Hanjiang, Assistant production Manager of China state Hualong Construction Ghana Limited has stated.
The completion of the project would enable the authorities to increase their intake and introduce more tertiary courses. This came to light when Mr. George Hikah Benson, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister and Mr P.A.M Banahene, Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) Administrator inspected the on-going projects of the school.
The inspection also revealed that eight staff bungalows had already been completed and handed over to the school authorities. The Deputy Regional Minister expressed satisfaction at the rate and quality of work going on in the school and advised the contractors to strictly adhere to contract specifications in order to come out with the best edifices in the region.
"I must say that am impressed with your work, but you need to work according to schedule so that it does not derail the plans of the school.
Mr. Banahene gave the assurance that funds would be released promptly to facilitate the completion of the project on schedule. He however, asked the contractor to change all the wooden stair rails to metal ones to give the building a long life span. The administrator promised to finance the project to be the best in West Africa and appealed to parents to reciprocate that gesture by sending their children to school.
For now, the Wa Polytechnic which started some years back has been holding both tertiary and non-tertiary classes in borrowed classrooms of Wa Secondary Technical School and Wa Workers' College, among others. Apart from that, the school could not admit enough students due to lack of accommodation.
