Awutu Bawjiase C/R, Jan 26, GNA - The government has secured four million euros foreign loan to finance a water project for the Senya Beraku and its surrounding communities.
Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister who was speaking at a People's Assembly held at Awutu Bawjiase Thursday, said the project would start soon.
He said the expansion work at the Agona Kwanyako Water Dam had been completed at an estimated at 24 million euros and that the Ghana water Company is testing the water to enable the project to be commissioned in March.
Nana Ato Arthur said Awutu Bawjiase/Adeiso road, the Akotsi/Senya Beraku road and Senya Beraku town roads are some of the roads to be constructed in the district.
He said the introduction of Capitation Grant had increased enrolment in basic schools in the region and that a total of 55, 000 children were enrolled last year.
Mr Kennedy Adjepong, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, said the Ayensu Starch Factory has temporary suspended operation because the starch content of the cassava cultivated in the Central Region to feed the factory is low.
He said the government has allowed private investors from both Ghana and Thailand to run the factory and that land has been acquired in the Brong Ahafo Region to cultivate cassava that has high starch content to feed the factory.
