Ho, Feb 6, GNA- As a result of the about a week-long water shortage in the Ho municipality, some people have adopted the practice of defecating in black polythene bags, which they deposit haphazardly in nooks and corners.
Sources close to the Ghana Water Company (GWC), however, gave contradictory explanations for the cause of the shortage. Mr. Eric Bansah, Ho Municipal Manager of the company told the GNA that the problem is mainly due to low power voltage at the Kpeve pumping station.
Another source, which wants to remain anonymous, said one of the pumps at the station was spoilt and had been sent to Takoradi for repairs.
The source said the pump was expected back for fixing and trial on Tuesday, February 7, this year.
Mr. Eric Bansah, interview said as a result of the low voltage being experienced at the pumping station the pumps had to be shut any time power dipped.
He said the situation, which was intermittent, was being monitored and pumping would resume as soon as power at the station was technically adequate for the machines to operate without getting damaged. Water supply to parts of Ho had been intermittent since the last Christmas holidays with the quite heavily populated SSNIT flats being the worst affected.
A waft of offensive smell from un-flushed water closets meet visitors to the flats, whose inhabitants depend on a nearby creek for water anytime there was shortage. 6 Feb. 06
