We’ll reward Akufo-Addo in 2020 elections – Barekese residents

Residents of Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District have pledged to thank the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Akufo-Addo with their thumb in the 2020 general elections for creating Atwima Nwabiagya North District.

The District Capital is Barekese.

During 2016 elections, then Presidential Candidate Nana Addo promised to create Atwima Nwabiagya North District to enhance socio economic development.

The residents speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei kwadwo during the inauguration of the new district Atwima Nwabiagya North said the President’s decision will help ensure developmental group and reduce unemployment in the district.

According to the residents, Barekese generates more revenue than Nkawie but Nkawie has developed more than Barekese because Nkawie was the district capital for Atwima Nwabiagya District.

“We want to thank President Nana Addo for creating Atwima Nwabiagya North District because he has released us from slavery. Barekese community have all the resources and we generate huge revenue to the assembly but still we lack social amenities. We will reward Nana Addo and NPP government with our thumb in the coming 2020 elections” they said.

Background

The Atwima Nwabiagya District formerly the Atwima District is one of the twenty-seven (27) districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

It’s capital is Nkawie.

In 2003, part of the district was split off by a decree during president John Agyekum Kufuor reign on November 12, 2003, to form the new Atwima Kwanwoma District and Atwima Mponua District.

Nkawie has been declared as Municipal Assembly.
