The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibreel Jegede has in collaboration with the Damongo Police closed down two mosques in Damongo town for defying the directives of the President and still congregate to worship.

Speaking on the morning show of Bole based Nkilgi FM on Monday 30th March, 2020, the MCE confirmed the closure of the Mosques and went ahead to give a strict warning to Mosques and Churches in Damomgo to stop congregational prayers or be closed down.

Mr Muhazu also hinted of an emergency Regional Security Council Meeting (REGSEC) meeting regarding the trooping into the town of Kayeyei’s (head porters) from Kumasi and Accra.

The MCE said the Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School (NDESCO) and the Damongo Senior High School (DASS) have been made temporary quarantine centers for those who will be coming into the Municipality.

The MCE has also appealed for parents, friends and family members to immediately disclose the identity of all those who have entered into the various communities from for immediate medical examination to be conducted on them.

On the issue of a suspected case involving a student from Kumasi with her parents in Busunu being reported to Health authorities in Damongo with the victim and her mother currently under quarantine in the Damongo Catholic Hospital awaiting results from Kumasi, the MCE said the said victim was among about 200 Kayayei’s.

He said the lady had a high temperature and also showed signs of COVID 19 but it has not been confirmed she is infected and that her results will be made known.

Hon. Jibreel, however, bemoaned the lack of medical equipment in the region especially the infrared gun thermometer which is used to instantly check the temperature of those trooping from the urban centres.

He said at the moment, the entire Municipality has just three of the machines which is very inadequate for the process.

He attributed the lack of the medical equipment to a nationwide shortage as a result of the rush for them since he has made several efforts to buy them from Accra and other parts of Ghana to support the process of examining especially the Kayayei girls from Accra and Kumasi.

Hon. Jegede, therefore, made an appeal to individuals, the government and philanthropist to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the Municipality to help fight the spread of Corvid-19 in the Savannah Region and Ghana as a whole.

Meanwhile, screening of about some 200 passengers who are mostly Kayayei girls took place at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School in Damongo by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Damongo Catholic Hospital.

This was disclosed on Bole based Nkilgi FM’s morning show by the MCE for West Gonja Municipality Hon. Saeed Jibril Muhazu.

The Police in the municipality has mounted barriers resulting to three vehicles carrying this 200 passengers being escorted to the school for screening.

The passengers will be quarantined at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High school for the mandatory 14 days before they are allowed to leave for their homes if no symptoms are shown.

Meanwhile the results of a Coronavirus test conducted on the Kayeyei lady by the Akomfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi is negative.

The young lady from Busunu who was quarantined at the West Gonja Hospital has since been released to go home much to the happiness of the family.
