Western Region observes Remembrance Day

Takoradi, Nov. 11, GNA - The 64th Remembrance Day celebration was on Wednesday marked in Sekondi-Takoradi to honour the world gallant soldiers, who took part and shared their blood in the Second World War. Reverend Lieutenant Noah Boahen of the Armed Forces Unit, who officiated the function paid glowing tributes to ex-servicemen and urged Ghanaians to remain united for development.

The Remembrance Day service is usually an occasion characterised by wreath-laying and speeches. Twelve ex-service men including six officers: Lance Corporal (L/CP) Ennin Kwamena, L/CP Thomas Kwamina, Ex-Private (EX PT) Daquah George, Ex-Private Asare, Ex-Private Gyamfi Kwesi and Ex-Private Tamakloe Felix, who fought in the Second World War, were lauded for their contribution towards world peace.

Ms Betty Bosomtwi-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, laid the first wreath on behalf of government and the people of Ghana, Nana Entsie, Omanhene of Mporhor Traditional Area for chiefs and people of the region. The Ghana Armed Forces, other security agencies, ex-servicemen and expatriates all laid wreaths in memory of the fallen soldiers. 11 Nov. 09
