Winner of Kente festival beauty pageant to receive KIA Rio

Akyeremade (Ash),- Efforts at creating market opportunities for ‘Kente’ weavers in the Bekwai Municipality to fight poverty had been given momentum as work steadily progresses on the construction of a crafts village at Akyeremade.
The exclave would have a restaurant and bar, showrooms, swimming pools and washrooms on completion.
This comes as people in the area make preparations for celebration of their annual Amansie Kente festival.
The event has been planned to coincide with the Easter and a number of high profile Ghanaian artistes have been lined up to perform to invest the celebration with added grandeur and color.
The highpoints would be a grand durbar of the chiefs and people, fund raising and a beauty pageant, the winner would receive a brand new KIA Rio donated by Century Water, the main sponsors of the event, as her prize.
Mr. Patrick Adu-Gyamfi, a businessman and the main pillar behind the move to bring more vibrancy into the area’s kente weaving industry, said the goal was to help give jobs to the youth.
The young people needed to be assisted to become more responsible and economically self-supporting, he added.
“The cause is noble and the expectation is that everybody would find space to contribute to make this a huge success.”
Mr. Adu-Gyamfi told journalists after an inspection tour of the crafts village that funds raised from the last year’s celebration of the festival had been channeled into the building of a community centre.
The GH?800,000 centre is being implemented in three phases and is scheduled to be ready in two years.
