Prestea, May 27, GNA - Prestea Police have arrested Abena Benedicta Yenbala, 32, for abandoning her three-week old baby boy at the Government Hospital, Prestea.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Benjamin Wordui, Prestea District Police Commander, said on April 19 Yenbala delivered at the hospital but abandoned the child and went into hiding. He said the case was reported to the police by the hospital authorities.
On May 12 Yenbala was arrested at her hideout at Nakaba, a suburb of Prestea.
When questioned, she said it would be difficult for her to cater for the baby in addition to four children she already has. Yenbala told the police that her husband is serving an eight-year jail term for defilement and caring for the children was a problem so she moved down to Prestea from Wa to look for an employment. On reaching Prestea, accommodation and feeding were difficult and that made her to accept an "application for love" offered by a man she did not know.
This unidentified man lied to Yenbala that they should put up in a small room where utensils for brewing "pito" were kept because there were visitors in his fathers house and that when the visitors leave there would be room for them to live as husband and wife. Mr Wordui said the relationship between Yenbala and this unidentified man resulted in a pregnancy and subsequent delivery at Government hospital, Prestea.
