Women urged to utilise their skills training

Kumasi, Feb 28, GNA- Mrs Alice Botchway, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the National Council on Women and Development (NCWD), has expressed concern about the large army of women who receive vocational training but fail to utilise their skills. She said most of them rather engaged in petty trading and other jobs to earn their daily bread.

Mrs Botchway who was speaking at the fourth graduation ceremony of Alfees Elegant Fashion Centre in Kumasi on Sunday, said empowering women through skills training was one of the strategies government has adopted to alleviate poverty in society. Nine women who undergone three-year training in fashion designing, bridal dressing, catering and interior decoration were presented with certificates.

Mrs Dora Owusu, Proprietress of DODAV Polytank Company in Kumasi, asked the graduates to be creative and impart the knowledge they have acquired to others. Mrs Freda Ansah Nimako, Proprietress of the Centre, used the occasion to appeal for funds for the Kumasi Children's Home. Dr A.B.K. Anane, a Lawyer, who chaired the function, advised the graduates to keep themselves abreast with the changing trends in their trade.
