Workers clean Nkoranza District

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 18, GNA - The staff of the Nkoranza District Assembly and other decentralized departments in Nkoranza on Friday organised a massive clean up exercise in the Nkoranza town to sensitise the people on the importance of environmental sanitation. Mr Daniel Agyarko, District Environmental Health Division Officer, Mr Hayford Kyere, Deputy District Coordinating Director and Mr Kyere Boateng, a Principal Executive Officer, jointly spearheaded the programme.

The workers swept the main streets of the town, desilted choked gutters and cleared weeds, where necessary on the street. Later, Messrs Agyarko, Boateng and Kyere, who in turn, addressed the people after the exercise, commended them for their voluntary spirit and commitment towards the development of the area.

They announced that the exercise would not be a nine-day wonder and urged the assembly to ensure that such activities were carried out quarterly to keep the town clean at all times to combat the spread of communicable diseases among the people.

They advised the people to maintain good environmental hygienic practices to promote better sanitation among the people in the communities.

Assembly members, Area Councils officials, Unit committee members and traditional rulers were also urged to organise their people to undertake periodic clean-up campaigns to ensure clean environment. They advised the various departmental heads to keep litter containers in their areas to avoid their staff littering rubbish on the street and surroundings.

Unit committees should arrest stray animals in the communities, impound them and prosecute their owners to serve as deterrents to other people.

They reminded the people that Nkoranza District is currently on record as the best adjudged district in environmental sanitation in the country and pleaded with them to try and do everything possible for the district to maintain that enviable sanitation honour.
