The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpando and former Deputy Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Della Adjoa Sowah, has donated sanitary pads to several schools in the Kpando Constituency.

This gesture, made on May 28, was in celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, involving Junior High Schools within the Kpando Municipality.

The beneficiary schools included the Islamic Arabic School, Immaculate Conception Girls School, and RC Girls School.

While presenting the items, the MP spoke to the students about the importance of maintaining good menstrual hygiene for a healthy lifestyle.

She expressed the opinion that inadequate menstrual health and hygiene can undermine the fundamental rights of women and girls, exacerbating social and economic disparities.

Della Sowah advised them against engaging in behaviours that could lead to teenage pregnancy, which would interrupt their education and future prospects.

She emphasized that avoiding such pitfalls would help ensure they become responsible citizens and achieve their dreams.

Menstrual Hygiene Day is commemorated annually on May 28 to emphasize the significance of proper menstrual hygiene management worldwide.

The initiative was started by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2013 and was first celebrated in 2014.
