The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, is set to make a historic visit to the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, the Overlord of the Manprugu Kingdom, at his royal palace in Nalerigu, North East Region.

In a statement issued by Benkromwura Seidu Saaka Bakari, spokesperson for the Yagbonwura, it was revealed that the two monarchs will deliberate on restoring lasting peace regarding the land dispute between the Gonjas and Mamprusis around Lukula in the North Gonja District.

“The visit to the Mamprugu Kingdom forms part of the King’s desire to visit other Kingdoms as a means of strengthening relations with other Kingdoms as well as ensuring lasting peaceful coexistence,” the statement read.

Beyond fostering and strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two kingdoms, the visit will also address boundary disputes. The statement emphasised the significance of the 2024 elections, noting that candidates from both kingdoms are involved, and it is crucial to demonstrate their peaceful coexistence as an example for all Ghanaians.

This will be Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale’s second historic visit since ascending the Yagbon Skins in March 2023.

His first visit was to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in May, where he held fruitful discussions with the King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II.
