The Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Yapei- Kusawgu Constituency of the Savannah Region Mr Abu Kamara has rejected an audio that he could be heard saying his target is not for President Nana Akufo-Addo to win the 2020 election as President but to kick out the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency Hon John Abudulai Jinapor and bring development to the Constituency.

Bole based Nkilgi FM broke the news on the audio on 14th May, 2020 but the Yapei- Kusawgu NPP candidate Mr Abu Kamara sent a WhatsApp message to General Manager of the Radio station stating; “…The said audio has been doctored and pieced together”.

The audio which according to the Savannah Regional Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr Malik Basintale “was intercepted” is making rounds on Savannah Region or Gonjaland WhatsApp groups with serious debates ongoing.

While many have either downplayed or defended the comments of the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency NPP candidate, others think he should do the honourable thing and resign for rejecting the Presidential candidate of his party.

A voice that sounds exactly like that of Mr Abu Kamara in the audio could be heard rejecting President Akufo-Addo and using the name of former President Dramani Mahama to his advantage and as well lambasting the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja Dr Mustapha Mahama for his inability to make visits to the communities in the area.

A translation of some parts of the audio which is in the Gonja language reads;

“...It is not a President we are looking for. We just want to change the MP to better the lives of our people. We are not doing a John Mahama campaign... I think if John Mahama couldn’t help us it is not Akufo-Addo that can help us. I am not doing John Mahama/ Akufo-Addo politics. If President Akufo-Addo does something good for you, vote for him and if John Mahama does something good for your vote for him.

"But Wallahi if we don’t change the MP our plight will worsen...Just consider the three years of Dr Mustapha who is the DCE, common paying visit to the people in the community, he has refused. Why is he doing that? His perception whether he does that or not, NPP will not win.

"John Jinapor is using Amadu Seidu’s principle. Since John Jinapor won as MP he has refused to pay visits to the communities because he thinks if he visits the communities or not he will win...Please you people should be talking to the young men. We can do it.”
