The Yendi Municipal Assembly has approved President Mahama’s nominee, Mr Issah Zakaria, as the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
Out of the 43 votes cast Mr Zakaria polled 30 votes representing 69.8 percent which confirmed his nomination.
The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission and supervised by the Northern Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Bruce Ayisi and the Yendi Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Ernest Opoku.
The MCE elect, in a brief speech, said he was grateful to the Almighty God for giving him another opportunity to serve the people of the municipality for another four years.
Mr Zakaria assured them of hard work to ensure the development of the municipality.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Northern Regional Minister, said on October 5, 2014, the tenure of office of the Yendi MCE came to an end.
He said the MCE was retained by President John Daramani Mahama for the Assembly’s approval and called on members to co-operate with him to fast-track the development of the area.
He advised the MCE to see where he fell short that denied him the 100 per cent votes and correct those mistakes.
He urged members to bury their differences and work towards uplifting the image of the area.
The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, advised the assembly members to learn to forgive the MCE and always correct him where he was lacking.
