Yendi Water crisis to be thing of the past

Yendi (N/R), Dec. 31, GNA - The Ghana Water Company

Limited (GWCL), is installing three mechanised boreholes to pump

water to Yendi in March 2011, to end the frequent water shortages

that afflicts the more than 75,000 residents. The Chief Director of the Ministry of Water Resources, Works

and Housing, Mr Ziblim Yakubu announced this when a delegation

of Ghana Water Board, visited the Yendi Water Works site at

Yendi. Mr Ziblim said the project was being sponsored by the GWCL

through its Internal Generated Fund as a short term measure. He said Bank Hapoalim from Israel was funding the provision of

pipe line to be connected to River Oti, to supply pipe borne Water

to Yendi, which is 25 Kilometres away as a long term measure. A member of the board, Alhaji Adam Yakubu Mahama Baba

Ibrahimah, expressed the satisfaction of members about the project. The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive Mr Issah Zakaria appealed

to Bank Hapoalin to hook communities along River Oti to benefit

from the water project. In a related development, Zabzugu/Tatale District Chief

Executive, Mr Umar Abdul Wahab has appealed to the Water

Ministry to connect the district to the River Oti project, since the

area is only 10 Kilometres away. He said currently Zabzugu township is connected to a dam as its

source of water.
