A young man linked to Kumasi-based cleric Sheikh Anas Tawfiq has passed on after failure to undergo a kidney transplant surgery following a US$50,000 donation by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Earlier, the kidney transplant patient was taken to India but the surgery could not happen leading to his return back to Ghana where he passed.

Some persons had accused the Kumasi-based cleric of allegedly embezzling US$50,000 dollars to support the kidney transplant, which he denied and refunded part of the money to the patient who is now late.

Attention on the donation came after it emerged the condition of the patient was getting worse leading to Peace Dawah Media, an Islamic Charity Group starting a fresh fundraiser for the patient.

Under this new fundraiser, opposition leader John Mahama sent in a GHS50,000 donation, unaware that Vice President Bawumia has footed the entire bill of GHS100,000 and US$50,000 for a kidney transplant outside Ghana for same patient.

The matter is expected to be settled with the death of the patient.
