Oboadaka (E/R) May 4, GNA - Two hundred youth, including students from the Oboadaka Unit of ASCUM, a Community Based Organisation (CBO), on Friday attended a day's workshop on business opportunities at Oboadaka near Suhum in the Eastern Region.
It was organised and sponsored by the Human Resource Management of the Abibiman Sankofa Cultural Movement (ASCUM). Participants were drawn from ASCUM's 25 Units (branches) in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District.
Mr. Freeman Madzi, Executive Director of the Organisation, told the He stated that the workshop was therefore; aimed at equipping the participants with the necessary skills to be able to start their own businesses, since most of them would complete their high schools this year.
The Director said the time had come when the organisation should not be seen to be spending on its members, but to empower them, especially the youth to earn a decent living.
He urged the participants to put into practice what they had learnt to help reduce unemployment situation in society.
Mr. Freeman reminded them that the days when people could get "white collar" jobs were gone and tasked them to explore business opportunities around them.
Mr. Emmanuel Annor, a facilitator, urged them to be proactive and to realise that they had the potential to start and grow their businesses to the level they wanted them to be.
According to him, there were so many business opportunities around them, which they could identify and utilise.
He advised them to avail themselves of business workshops periodically to enhance their potentials as entrepreneurs.
Topics treated included entrepreneurship, business opportunity identification, setting business goals and starting businesses.
