More than 328 youth in the Kwahu West Municipality have received sewing machines and hair dryers under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) program after their six months apprenticeship.
The equipment is to assist the beneficiaries to establish their own businesses and also train others to be self-employed to reduce the high unemployment rate of the country.
Presenting the items, Mr Fuseini Soala, Municipal Director of GYEEDA, said 1,275 youth had so far been trained in dress making, hair dressing, health and teaching assistantship, agriculture extension, auto mechanism and bakery which had created employment for the youth in the municipality.
He advised the unemployed youth in the area to register with GYEEDA to be trained and supplied with the needed tools to establish their own businesses.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Mr Alex Somuah Obeng, Municipal Chief Executive, said the objective of the programme was to create employment for the youth for income generation and improve on their living standards.
He said the government would continue with the programme to offer employment to the youth throughout the country.
He advised the beneficiaries to put the items to effective use to reduce the unemployment rate.
The Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Mr Seth Adjei Baah, advised the youth to comport themselves and use the items to generate the needed income to eradicate poverty in the society.
